PESTICIDE RESIDUES

Pesticide residues are regulated in EU by Regulation (EC) No 396/2005 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 23 February 2005 on maximum residue levels of pesticides in or on food and feed of plant and animal origin and amending Council Directive 91/414/EEC

In accordance with the definition in above mentioned Regulation:

‘pesticide residues’ means residues, including active substances, metabolites and/or breakdown or reaction products of active substances currently or formerly used in plant protection products as defined in Article 2, point 1 of Directive 91/414/EEC, which are present in or on the products covered by Annex I to this Regulation, including in particular those which may arise as a result of use in plant protection, in veterinary medicine and as a biocide.

The Regulation establishes lists of commodities, maximum residue levels, calculation factors, substances for which MRLs are not needed.
